Packaged in a transparent bottle and an easily recognized yellow-gold label, the NV Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige Brut is a blend of 75% Chardonnay, 10% Pinot Bianco and 15% Pinot Nero. This is among Ca' del Bosco's most affordable and accessible sparkling wines. It offers steady consistency year after year. I've always loved the bouquet of this wine. It shows a slightly spicy side that reminds me of Christmas oranges nailed with cloves. In the mouth, the wine is lean and crisp with fine and persistent perlage.

The MV Franciacorta Cuvée Prestige, an Extra Brut style of Franciacorta, is remarkably pretty with floral perfumes and white smoke blossoming into a pure display of ripe pear and hints of lemon confit. It’s round and pliant, balanced by a brilliant mix of bright acids and minerals that gives way to yellow apples. The finish is wonderfully dry and clean, tapering off to hints of savory spice. It’s a great introduction to the Ca' del Bosco portfolio. This is a blend of 75% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Nero and 10% Pinot Bianco. Disgorged: Winter of 2019/2020.

Fine and harmonious, with mouthwatering acidity enlivening well-meshed flavors of brioche, poached apricot and candied pink grapefruit peel. Snappy, mineral-laced finish. Disgorged spring 2019. Drink now through 2025. 4,000 cases imported.

Aromas of ripe Bartlett pear and bread crust follow through to the creamy palate along with vanilla, citrus and a hint of crystallized ginger. A silky perlage provides the backdrop.

Varietal: Champagne Blend

Whilst Champagne sparkling wines are most commonly made with a blend of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and Pinot Meunier grape varietals, there are actually seven fine grape varietals allowed by French wine law for inclusion in the wines of this region. These include Arbanne, Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc and and Petit Meslier alongside the others, although these four are being used less and less in the modern age. Champagnes are normally blended wines, although the popularity of single variety 'blanc de blanc' Champagnes made solely with Chardonnay grapes, and 'blanc de noir' wines made only with Pinot Noir varietal grapes are becoming more and more popular. The blending process found in most Champagnes aims to take the finest points of each grape varietal and bring them together to produce spectacular, strong yet balanced results in the bottle.

Region: Lombardy

The north westerly region of Lombardy in Italy has long been recognized as a highly important center for viticulture, and despite the region being dominated by industry and huge cities such as Milan, it also has mile upon mile of beautiful, unspoilt green space ideal for growing vines. For centuries, the shores of the stunning and expansive Lake Garda have been home to many of Italy's finest vineyards, where the temperature is cooler and more suitable for slowly ripening grapes of exceedingly high quality. Today, Lombardy primarily produces superbly crisp and flavorful white wines made from the Trebbiano varietal grape. However, recent decades have seen much successful experimentation with Bordeaux varietals such as Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon and Pinot Noir, making this a thoroughly modern wine region, albeit one steeped in history and tradition.

Country: Italy

It isn't difficult to understand why Italy is famed not just for the quality of its wines, but also for the vast variety and range of characteristics found in the wines there. The terrain of the country varies wildly, from the lush rolling green hills and valley of Tuscany, to the sun drenched rocky coasts of Sicily, the mountainous and alpine regions of the north, and the marshy lowlands of the east. Italy really does have a little bit of everything. Combine this huge range of landscapes with an almost perfect climate for grape cultivation, and you have a country seemingly designed for viticultural excellence. The results speak for themselves, and it is clear to see that wine has become an inseparable part of Italian culture as a result of its abundance and brilliance. Each village, city and region has a local wine perfectly matched with the cuisine of the area, and not an evening passes without the vast majority of Italian families raising a glass of locally sourced wine with pride and pleasure.
