Ruchottes-Chambertin is the highest Grand Cru in Gevrey-Chambertin and its altitude was a boon in torrid 2018. It's very much a 'mountain wine', at least in Burgundian terms, showing plenty of peony and rose petal perfume, deftly handled 30% new wood, bright, chalky minerality and a long, refreshing finish. The most focused and elegant of the top Rousseau wines this year. ... More details

94-96 The 2018 Ruchottes-Chambertin Clos des Ruchottes Grand Cru has a broody nose at first, featuring black rather than red fruit, wet limestone, iris flowers and crushed stone. The palate is medium-bodied with filigreed tannins and excellent acidity. Quite saline toward the finish. Superb aftertaste.

92-94 Unfurling in the glass with aromas of cherries, violets, raspberries and rose hips, the 2018 Ruchottes-Chambertin Grand Cru Clos des Ruchottes is the most ethereal wine in the cellar. Medium to full-bodied, racy and fine-boned, its delicate chassis of chalky structuring tannins is cloaked in fleshy but succulent fruit.

An absolutely gorgeous nose reflects cool and pure aromas of the essence of red berry liqueur, spice and soft floral scents. The lilting and mineral-driven middle weight flavors retain excellent delineation and a sophisticated mouthfeel while the sneaky long if decidedly firm finish possesses outstanding complexity. This powerful yet sophisticated and refined Zen-like effort is exceptionally promising.
Winery
Exquisite freshness. A mineral wine with a certain untouchable elegance all the while possessing a delicate and soft expression of its terroir.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir translates as 'black pine' in French, and is named as such due to the extremely inky color of the fruits, which hang in bunches the shape of a pine cone. Wineries often struggle with Pinot Noir vines, as more than most red wine grape varietals, they fail in hot temperatures and are rather susceptible to various diseases which can be disastrous when hoping for a late harvest. Thanks to new technologies and methods for avoiding such problems, however, the Pinot Noir grape varietal has spread across the world to almost every major wine producing country. Why? Quite simply because this is considered to be one of the finest grape varietals one can cultivate, due to the fact that it can be used to produce a wide range of excellent wines full of interesting, fresh and fascinating flavors Their thin skins result in a fairly light-bodied wine, and the juices carry beautiful notes of summer fruits, currants and berries, and many, many more.

Region: Burgundy

The wines which come out of the Burgundy region of France are regularly hailed as amongst the finest in the world, with the area now being synonymous with quality red wines of exceptional flavor, character and aroma. However, Burgundy is no newcomer to the world of fine wines, with the earliest recordings of the quality of this region's produce dating back to the 6th century, and archaeological evidence suggesting that vineyards had been cultivated there for over two thousand years. Today, there are dozens of controlled appellations within Burgundy, each producing exceptional wines typical of the region. The whole area benefits greatly from hot summers and mild, long autumnal periods, which, when coupled with the generations of expertise of the wineries in Burgundy, consistently produces superb wines for the world's enjoyment.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.
