There is a subtle touch of wood to the mildly exotic aromas of mostly yellow orchard fruit that are tinged with hints of spice, menthol and floral traces. The generous and powerful big-bodied flavors possess outstanding complexity with equally good mid-palate concentration as well as an abundance of dry extract that coats the palate on the beautifully persistent finish. This is a tightly focused and intense Bâtard that should age effortlessly for years. In a word, impressive. ... More details

Tasted blind at the annual Burgfest tasting, the 2014 Bâtard-Montrachet Grand Cru was the most subtle of eight wines tasted from the vineyard, but it exudes mineralité, tension and class with gorgeous oyster shell scents percolating through with time. The palate is very detailed with a fine bead of acidity, beautifully balanced with a saline tang that builds throughout and flourishes toward the finish. This is an outstanding Bâtard-Montrachet from Henri Boillot, one that comes highly recommended.

93-95 Bright yellow. Sexy aromas of ripe peach, nut oil and acacia flower. Large-scaled, broad and classically dry but not yet filled in. Rich and powerful but suave, not heavy, thanks to acidity close to five grams per liter. Finishes with outstanding palate-saturating fruit and no dryness. This is from 100% domain fruit.
Winery
Hue: Pale yellow with green hues. Nose: Mandarin peel, spices, white blossom, honeysuckle. Palate: Powerful and dense yet elegant. Good energy and perfectly balanced – Excellent minerality – Saline, precise, long.

green grapes

Varietal: Chardonnay

In the past couple of decades, the sales of wines made with Chardonnay grapes has risen and fallen more than once. For many people, this green skinned grape was marred by a poor reputation for bland and uninteresting wines, a great shame considering the fact that Chardonnay grapes have proven time and time again to be interesting, versatile and full of surprises. Most commonly, fine Chardonnay wines are buttery, smooth and creamy as a result of malolactic fermentation, yet with hints of tropical fruits and orchard fruits such as apples and pears. What is most remarkable about Chardonnay grapes, however, is the fact that unlike many other 'white' grapes, they are exceptionally good at holding the characteristics of their terroir in the bottle. As such, despite their fluctuating reputation, this is one grape varietal which produces constantly surprising, impressive and varied wines.

Region: Burgundy

The beautiful region of Burgundy in France is famously home to some of the most exquisite red wines to be found anywhere on earth, and is most commonly associated with the silky, elegant and flavorful Pinot Noir varietal wines which are commonly produced there. However, the superb and mineral rich soils fed by the Rhone river, and the long hot summers and mild autumns of the region produce a wide variety of fine grapes, and as such, Burgundy produces plenty of different wines which are equally as good as the produce the region is famed for. The region of Burgundy itself has a wine-making history which stretches back at least two thousand years, and as such, it comes as no surprise that the wineries which fill the dozens of controlled appellations of the region rely heavily on traditional methods and techniques when it comes to producing their famous wines.

Country: France

France is renowned across the globe for its quality wines and the careful expertise which goes into making them, but what is truly remarkable about this relatively small country is the vast range of wines it produces in such huge amounts each year. Not only are the finest red wines in the world said to come from the beautiful regions of Bordeaux and Burgundy, but elsewhere in the country we find the Champagne region, and areas such as the Rhone Valley and the Loire, whose white wines consistently receive awards and accolades by the plenty. This range is a result of the great variety of climatic conditions and terrain found in France, coupled with generations of wine makers working within single appellations. Their knowledge of specific terroirs and grape varieties has, over time, perfected the production of wines within their region, and the end results continue to impress the world to this day.

Appellation: Cote De Beaune

The beautifully and unforgettable French region of Cote De Beaune has been revered throughout the centuries, and recognized as one of the key producer's of the world's finest white wines. The region is highly respected as an excellent producer of Chardonnay wines, and the Chardonnay grapes which grow there, on the southern slopes of the Cote d'Or, are packed full of the unique and powerful characteristics of this very special terroir. Interestingly, Cote De Beaune produces more red wine than white wine, despite its white wines being so famous. The red wines of Cote De Beaune are mainly made from Pinot Noir, but are relatively very light and fruity in their character, perfect for sipping on a warm, sunny day alongside a wide range of foods.
