A moderately toasty and menthol-inflected nose is comprised by notes of black raspberry, cassis and spicy jasmine tea. The very rich and lush medium-bodied flavors possess surprisingly good power and minerality along with a copious of dry extract that does a good job of buffering the very firm tannic spine on the muscular, serious and built-to-age finish. ... The 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru comes from three lieux-dits: Les Charmes, Les Petits-Monts and Aux Malconsorts. It has a very composed bouquet of ample ripe raspberry, crushed strawberry, veins of blue fruit and a touch of crushed stone. The palate is well balanced with supple tannin and a fine bead of acidity. A light oyster shell note pokes up toward the harmonious, velvety finish. This is going to be very seductive.

Aromas of blueberries, candied cherries and lemon zest. Full-bodied yet tight and focused on the palate with a beautiful balance of tannins and a crisp finish. Needs a year or two to come together. Better after 2021.

Aromas of red berries, spices and sweet soil tones introduce the 2017 Vosne-Romanée 1er Cru, a medium-bodied wine with an open-knit core and chewy structuring tannins. Perhaps it was simply out of sorts when I tasted it, but it certainly doesn't appear to possess the same depth and incipient complexity as the lovely 2016 rendition.

Beautiful bright deep colour. The wines offer a great aromatic complexity. The nose exudes notes of violet, Morello cherry, strawberry, combined with hints of coffee, chocolate and even truffle. The palate confirms the delicacy of pinot noir. Its refined aromas are supported by silky tannins. Lingering elegant aftertaste.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Whilst the Pinot Noir grape varietal has its origins in France, and is most closely associated with fine Burgundy wines, it is now grown in almost every wine producing country in the world. There are many reasons for this â€“ the densely packed, deep black bunches of fruits are responsible for making a wide variety of excellent wines, generally agreed to be amongst the most drinkable and accessible one can find. With flavors ranging from currants and red and black berries, to more earthy, spicy notes, Pinot Noir is a versatile varietal which is revered for its relatively light body and beautifully vivid red color However, the grapes themselves are notoriously susceptible to various diseases, and struggle in fluctuating climates. This has not stopped wineries planting and cultivating these vines, though, as Pinot Noir, when grown carefully and treated properly, is a grape with a wide and increasing fan-base, and more often than not produces wonderful wines.

There are few more famous wine regions in the world than Burgundy, and this special area has given much to raise the profile of fine French wines around the world. Although most commonly associated with excellent quality red wines made with the Pinot Noir varietal, this region is home to several red and white varietals and produces and impressive range of wines, from still to sparkling, dry to sweet, full bodied and aged, and from to light and drinkable. The region of Burgundy has been producing excellent wines for centuries, with much evidence to suggest that the ancient Gauls were the first to cultivate the native vines which flourish here in the warm summers, and on the excellent soil fed by local rivers. This type of heritage has led to a wine industry highly unique, deeply traditional, and with an exquisite reputation to uphold.
