Pegau's distinctive violet and garrigue aromas are on full display in the 2017 Châteauneuf du Pape Cuvée Réservée, backed by plummy fruit and velvety tannins. It's medium to full-bodied, concentrated and rich, with ample length and hints of mocha and licorice on the finish. This is dark and winey, with a serious core of steeped fig, black currant and blackberry fruit that shows broad shoulders. A second wave of warm paving stone, bay leaf and tar strides in on the finish, resulting in a powerful swath of fruit and earth in the end. A bit of patience is needed here. Grenache, Syrah and Mourvèdre. Best from 2023 through 2037.

The 2017 Chateauneuf-du-Pape Cuvee Reservee is a terrific wine, and this is certainly another good vintage for the domaine. Giving up a classic, old-school bouquet of blackberries, currants, iron, bloody meat, and pepper, it’s full-bodied, has terrific purity of fruit, serious tannins, impeccable balance, and a great finish. The cellar is going to be your friend.

Full, bright-rimmed ruby. Ripe, spice-tinged black raspberry, cherry preserves, garrigue, pungent flowers and a hint of gaminess on the expansive nose. Plush, appealingly sweet red and dark fruit liqueur and lavender pastille flavors turn spicier and more energetic as the wine opens up. The cherry and floral notes echo on a very long, penetrating finish framed by well integrated tannins. Since there was no Cuvée Da Capo made this vintage, all that prime fruit went into this wine.

Pulled from Les Relagnes, a vineyard of mostly clairette with grenache blanc, roussanne and bourboulenc planted in 1980, this wine’s restraint shows off the coolness of the site’s deep clay soils and surrounding forests. The flavors play in the key of green, from tangy lime to leafy tarragon and meaty pistachio richness, the acidity giving the wine a force that belies its silky texture. A structured white, it’s impressive now for its freshness and purity, and it’s sure to gain in complexity over the next decade.

COLOR: Dark red with a purple body. NOSE: Black ripe fruits like morello cherries and raspberries, juniper berries, black pepper and garrigue. After several years ageing, the aromas will be characterised by plums, dried stone fruits, leaher, fur and sandalwood. MOUTH: Round, rich and powerful with soft tannins. With time, i twill involve into a more complex and spicy wine.

There are few wine regions in the world with a history as long and illustrious as that of the Rhone Valley in France. For over two thousand years, wines have been produced in this region, benefited by the excellent, mineral-rich soils of the region, and the varied climate which allows a wide range of grape varietals to grow. The Rhone Valley is now split into two quite separate regions, with the north part being characterized by its cooler, continental climate and the limited number of grape varietals grown, and the southern sub-region being perfect for growing a wide range of grapes, and producing an exciting number of different wine styles.
