The single-vineyard 2020 El Velado was cropped in a challenging year from a southeast-facing plot in the village of Lanciego. The plot has a high proportion of Garnacha, which had an irregular fruit set because of rain and delivered less compact bunches of high quality. The grapes were harvested from the 10th of October and then fermented in an open-top, 3,000-kilo oak vat with indigenous yeasts. The wine matured in barriques and foudres for 14 to 16 months. This elegant wine follows the path of the superb 2019, maybe one step above despite the challenging year. 1,495 bottles were filled in May 2022.

Varietal: Tempranillo

There are plenty of notable native Spanish grapes which have made a big impression on the wine world at large, but none are as renowned or as widely loved as the Tempranillo varietal. This black skinned grape has been used for wine making for centuries, with several ancient civilizations noticing the fact that it is highly versatile and holds some delicious flavors and aromas, perfect for those looking for a powerful yet elegant grape for their wines. Tempranillo often causes winemakers some trouble, however, as it is highly susceptible to many diseases. Despite this, plenty continue to persevere with this varietal, as it is perfect for producing delicious and complex single variety and blended wines, packed full of classic Spanish flavors and plenty of aromatic and intense surprises.
