A blend of Mazis-Bas and Mazis-Haut , this comes from a 0.5ha holding aged between 40 and 60 years. It's a vineyard where 'the roots know where to find water', according to Cyrielle Rousseau and so didn't suffer from heat stress in 2018. Perfumed, subtle and graceful, with stylishly handled 20% new wood, it's a fresh, energetic Grand Cru that's gentle and refined on the palate with filigree tannis and summer pudding fruit. ... 94-96 The 2018 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru has a beautifully defined bouquet of intense red berry fruit and displays superb mineralité - vrai Mazys. It is more serious than the Charmes-Chambertin. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannins, very pure red currant and raspberry fruit and gentle grip. An undertow of pepperiness surfaces toward the voluminous finish. Superb.

Rated 94 by Wine Advocate
92-94 Aromas of dark wild berries, raspberries, smoked meats, rich soil tones and espresso roast introduce the 2018 Mazy-Chambertin Grand Cru, a full-bodied, lavishly textural wine that's more structured and muscular than the Charmes-Chambertin that preceded it, built around livelier acids and concluding with a longer finish. If the Charmes is more extroverted, the Mazy is deeper and more serious, built for the cellar.

92-94 A slightly fresher nose blends slightly cooler red currant, underbrush, game and pungent earth wisps. There is very good energy to the delineated larger-scaled and attractively textured flavors that exude a subtle minerality on the powerful, focused and beautifully long finish that flash touches of warmth and rusticity. This noticeably robust and muscular effort will require extended cellar time to shed its firm carapace of tannins.
Winery
The Mazy-Chambertin is a wine known to have a firm structure and considerable power. Elegant red berry and cherry fruit aromas and flavors, with excellent structure and balanced acidity. Hints of spice, forest floor, and elegant fruit. It is a virile wine, well built with a nice aromatic power and elegance.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir is one of the planet's most widely grown and enjoyed grape varietals, and thanks to the popularity of the key wines it is associated with – Burgundy and Champagne – it has successfully spread from its native home in France to much of the wine producing world. Pinot Noir means 'black pine' in French, and this refers to the extremely dark, inky color of the fruit, and the fact that it grows in conical bunches, resembling a large pine cone. It has long been revered for its wide range of refreshing, summery flavors, and the fact that it produces red wines of a beautiful garnet color and light body. More recently, sparkling wines made exclusively with Pinot Noir have been extremely popular, and the orchard notes found in the fizzy 'blanc des noirs' wines mark out just how versatile this grape varietal really is. Despite being notoriously difficult to grow, it isn't hard to see why this grape is now found in vineyards all over the world, as it is synonymous with romance and decadence, quality and fantastic flavor

Region: Burgundy

The beautiful region of Burgundy in France is famously home to some of the most exquisite red wines to be found anywhere on earth, and is most commonly associated with the silky, elegant and flavorful Pinot Noir varietal wines which are commonly produced there. However, the superb and mineral rich soils fed by the Rhone river, and the long hot summers and mild autumns of the region produce a wide variety of fine grapes, and as such, Burgundy produces plenty of different wines which are equally as good as the produce the region is famed for. The region of Burgundy itself has a wine-making history which stretches back at least two thousand years, and as such, it comes as no surprise that the wineries which fill the dozens of controlled appellations of the region rely heavily on traditional methods and techniques when it comes to producing their famous wines.

Country: France

French winemakers are subjected to several laws and regulations regarding the wines they produce, and how they can be labeled and sold. Such procedures are designed to increase the overall quality of the country's produce, and also to ensure that wines made in each particular region or appellation are of a character and type which is representative of the area. Thankfully for consumers of wine world-wide, the French have a particularly high reputation to uphold, and seem to do so flawlessly. Every year, wineries from all over France produce millions upon millions of bottles of fine wine, making the most of their native grape varieties and the excellent terrain which covers most of the country. From the expensive and exquisite red wines of Bordeaux and Burgundy, to the white wines and cremants of central France, the French are dedicated to providing the world with wines of the highest quality and most distinctive character.
