This 100% Cabernet Sauvignon was aged for 20 months in 55% new French oak. The Vaca Vista Vineyard, a roughly 16ha site in the Oak Knoll District, provides fruit from two distinct clones—Clone 7 and Clone 685, an ENTAV clone. Winemaker Joe Harden highlights their contrasting characteristics: Clone 7 produces higher yields with larger clusters and berries, while Clone 685 delivers smaller, tightly packed clusters with lower yields, bringing focus, structure, and concentration. The clones are fermented separately, undergo malolactic fermentation in barrel, and are blended after the first racking to finish ageing together. The wine opens with a bright peppery character, complemented by dried bay leaf, dark cacao, and currant fruit. Medium to full-bodied, it showcases extremely polished, fine-grained tannins with a pixelated texture. Perfectly ripe, it boasts exceptional intensity and a remarkable freshness that transcends the warmth of the vintage. The extraordinary layered complexity and vibrant energy make this an exceptional expression of Oak Knoll Cabernet Sauvignon. ... More details

Pronounced aromatics of mountain herbs linger into a palate of dark fruits and rich spices. Pleasantly structural with an almost velvet mouthfeel, this Cabernet delivers a balance of savory flavors, fruit and length.

Rated 91 by James Suckling
A supple, relaxed red that soothes the palate with ripe red and black fruit and soft tannins. A broad, generous texture brings along dried cherry, baked blueberry and cinnamon flavors in this full-bodied wine. Drink or hold.
Wine Spectator
Ripe and direct, with a core of plum and cherry compote that's carried by a glossy structure through the licorice-accented finish. For near-term drinking. Drink now through 2027. 3,200 cases made.
Winery
An absolute crowd pleaser, this Oak Knoll District Cabernet has expressive red currant and floral aromas and pure red fruit flavors. Soft and silky throughout the palate, the fruit is juicy and full, with polished tannins, a broad mouthfeel and one of the smoothest, sleekest finishes of the vintage.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

By far and away the most recognized and widely grown red wine grape varietal in the world is the Cabernet Sauvignon. First cultivated in the 18th century in France, this wonderful cross of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon Blanc grapes has long since been the most important varietal for red wines across the globe. Now grown everywhere from its native France to the furthest reaches of the New World, Cabernet Sauvignon is adored and prized by wineries for its hardiness and resistance to rot, as well as its large and sharp flavors and wonderful capability for fine aging Indeed, many of the finest wines of history and the modern age would be simply unimaginable without Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, with the famed wineries of Bordeaux and other important regions using it as the primary grape in their oak aged produce. High tannin levels, acidity and powerful flavors are the characteristics most commonly associated with this varietal, however, when blended and slowly aged, it is capable of a world of flavors and aromas unmatched by any other grape.

Region: California

California as a wine producing region has grown in size and importance considerably over the past couple of centuries, and today is the proud producer of more than ninety percent of the United States' wines. Indeed, if California was a country, it would be the fourth largest producer of wine in the world, with a vast range of vineyards covering almost half a million acres. The secret to California's success as a wine region has a lot to do with the high quality of its soils, and the fact that it has an extensive Pacific coastline which perfectly tempers the blazing sunshine it experiences all year round. The winds coming off the ocean cool the vines, and the natural valleys and mountainsides which make up most of the state's wine regions make for ideal areas in which to cultivate a variety of high quality grapes.

Country: United States

For three hundred years now, the United States has been leading the New World in wine production, both in regards to quantity and quality. Wine is actually produced in all fifty states across the country, with California leading the way by an enormous margin. Indeed, as much as eighty-nine percent of all wines to come out of the United States are produced in California, where the fertile soils and sloping mountain sides, coupled with the long, hot summers provide ideal conditions for producing high quality, European style red, white and rosé wines. With over a million acres of the country under vine, the United States sits comfortably as the fourth largest wine producer in the world, where imported grape varietals from all over the Old World are processed using a successful blend of traditional and contemporary techniques.

Appellation: Napa Valley

California has long been recognized as a wonderfully rich and fertile location for viticulture, and hundreds of years now, vintners in the United States of America have used the valleys and mountain sides of California for gradually building their own wine culture, based on techniques and practices brought over from the old countries. When it comes to Californian wines of real quality and distinction, however, there is nowhere quite like the Napa Valley, which is now widely considered to be one of the world's premier wine regions, and very much the standard bearer for modern, American wines. With Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Zinfandel varietal grapes all growing well in Napa Valley, the region produces an impressive range of wines, which have had an enormous impact on the Old and New Worlds, and have changed viticulture forever.
