A subtle nose on this wine references chalk, lanolin and lemon, drawing you in with a promise of depth. Just as secretive, the palate presents pure lemon essence from its depths of chalkiness. The wine is concentrated and bright, with effortless elegance. We will have to wait for this profound yet restrained wine to reveal itself. Drink 2025–2040. ... More details

The 2018 Chablis Moutonne Monopole Grand Cru comprises 12,633 bottles this year (minus the one I am tasting here). It has a delineated, crushed stone and lightly sea-influenced bouquet that gains intensity with aeration. The palate is well balanced with a fine bead of acidity, elegant and poised, and the finest finish among the domaine’s Grand Crus. There is a sense of energy here, and a great aftertaste. Excellent.

This is a very intense and focused Chablis with a very composed and attractively long, supple and juicy feel that offers a wealth of wet stones and lemons on the nose with a composed, peach and grapefruit-flavored palate. Drink over the next six years.

Rated 90 by Wine Spectator
This is more broad than round, the creamy texture setting the stage for peach, melon, apple and stony mineral flavors. Balanced and juicy, with a light bitterness elevating the long finish. Drink now through 2024. 1,200 cases made, 122 cases imported.

Varietal: Chardonnay

There are few white wine grape varietals as famous or widely appreciated as the Chardonnay, and with good reason. This highly flexible and adaptable grape quickly became a favorite of wineries due to its fairly neutral character. This neutrality allows the wineries to really show off what they are capable of doing, by allowing features of their terroir or aging process to come forward in the bottle. As well as this, most high quality wineries which produce Chardonnay wines take great efforts to induce what is known as malolactic fermentation, which is the conversion of tart malic acids in the grapes to creamy, buttery lactic acids associated with fine Chardonnay. Whilst the popularity of Chardonnay wines has fluctuated quite a considerable amount over the past few decades, it seems the grape varietal allows enough experimentation and versatility for it always to make a successful comeback.

Region: Burgundy

There are few more famous wine regions in the world than Burgundy, and this special area has given much to raise the profile of fine French wines around the world. Although most commonly associated with excellent quality red wines made with the Pinot Noir varietal, this region is home to several red and white varietals and produces and impressive range of wines, from still to sparkling, dry to sweet, full bodied and aged, and from to light and drinkable. The region of Burgundy has been producing excellent wines for centuries, with much evidence to suggest that the ancient Gauls were the first to cultivate the native vines which flourish here in the warm summers, and on the excellent soil fed by local rivers. This type of heritage has led to a wine industry highly unique, deeply traditional, and with an exquisite reputation to uphold.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
