The Faiveley family's 0.4ha parcel of Les Preuses was planted in 1949 and is among the domaine's older blocks. Pale, fresh and refined, this was mostly stainless steel fermented, with just 10% seeing wood. Aniseed and lemon peel aromas lead you into a palate that combines stone fruit and lime flavours with a dusting of baking spices. Drinking Window 2021 - 2028.

The 2018 Chablis Les Preuses Grand Cru has an introverted bouquet that demands coaxing, eventually offering wet pavement, limestone and light oyster shell aromas. The palate is well balanced with an appealing oily texture. Lime, orange pith, touches of menthol and brown spices form the midpalate. Good density and spiciness come through on the finish. This is an excellent Les Preuses that will benefit from bottle age.

There is a mild touch of the exotic to the pretty floral, white peach and softly citrus and iodine-inflected nose. The generously proportioned flavors possess reasonable energy with good depth and persistence on the mouthcoating finale. This is relatively forward and could be enjoyed young. In sum, like the Fourchaume, this is perfectly good but not truly distinguished.
Winery
Light yellow in color with golden reflections. The nose i srich yet delicate with mineral, creamy, floral and slightly iodized notes combined with a touch of honey and dried fruits. The palate reveals a firect attack and powerful, well-honed and distintive mis-palate.

Varietal: Chardonnay

Despite having its origins in western France, Chardonnay's immense popularity and flexibility quickly meant that before long, there wasn't a wine producing country in the world which wasn't investing in this fascinating and versatile grape varietal. Today, Chardonnays manage to win fine wine competitions and satisfy supermarket shoppers simultaneously, due to the fact that this grape varietal can take on many characteristics and features of where it is grown and how it is handled. Indeed, this green skinned grape is renowned for not having so much unique flavor within the fruit, but is very sensitive to the features of the terroir it is grown in, as well as to aging As such, it isn't unusual to find bottles of single variety Chardonnay wine described as holding notes of white stone, mountain waters, or other such geological features alongside the more predictable fruit descriptions This makes Chardonnay grape varietal wines an exciting world to delve into – full of surprises, full of delights.

Region: Burgundy

In the beautiful French wine region of Burgundy, there is archaeological evidence to suggest that there has been viticultural activity going on for at least two thousand years. To add to this, there are early written records praising the exceptional wines produced in this region dating back to the 6th century, making Burgundy one of the oldest established and still operational wine regions in the world. The region is most commonly associated with fine red wines, with Pinot Noir being the primary grape varietal grown on its rolling hillsides and gently sloping valleys. However, Chardonnay grapes are also produced in abundance for the production of their fine white wines, with both varietals benefiting greatly from the region's warm, hot summers and the superb soils which make up the terroir.
