Another sensational wine in the lineup is the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisoli Vineyard, which comes from a great site in Rutherford. All Cabernet Sauvignon brought up in new barrels, it has a regal, full-bodied, structured yet lively style that brings beautiful cassis and assorted darker cherry-like fruits, building tannins, a gravelly earth-like sense of minerality, and the vintage’s pure, focused, incredibly impressive style. I love everything about this beauty, and while it offers pleasure today, it warrants 4-6 years in the cellar. It will drink well for at least two decades.

My favorite of Amici’s recent wines is the 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisoli Vineyard. While it aged In100% new French oak—and it does offer scents of mocha, cedar and creosote—it’s also richly fruited, with layers of deep plum and black cherry. Full-bodied, rich and expansive, it’s nicely ripe and supple without being over the top, and it boasts a long, licorice-tinged finish.

The 2021 Cabernet Sauvignon Morisoli Vineyard is texturally gorgeous. In fact, the 2021 is the most refined and harmonius Amici wine I have tasted off this site. Hints of rose petal, lavender and spice are beautifully delineated, but it is the wine’s silkiness and creaminess in texture that impress most today. This pliant, expressive Rutherford Cabernet is a winner.
Winery
The Amici Morisoli Cabernet Sauvignon is a perfect example of the power and elegance that Rutherford wines are known for. Its nose is complex, with notes of ripe plum, blackcurrant, red cherry, cedar and a touch of graphite, with a rich, lush palate laden with blackberry, dark chocolate, cocoa powder and Madagascar vanilla. The plush and opulent tannins carry through to a long, savory finish.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

For most of us, when we look for red wines in a wine store or supermarket, the name Cabernet Sauvignon stands out as a mark of quality and reliability. The same can be said for the way those who cultivate the grapevines see them, too, as part of the reason Cabernet Sauvignon varietal grapes have had so much success all over the world is due to their hardiness against frost, reliability in regards to yield and quality, and great resistance to rot. As such, Cabernet Sauvignon is a winemaker's dream of a grape, consistently delivering excellence alongside a few pleasant surprises. Despite the fact that the grape on its own in a young wine can often be a bit overpowering, too astringent and challenging for many tastes, it is the perfect grape varietal for blending and aging in oak. Such a truth has been displayed for centuries now in some of the finest wineries on earth, for whom Cabernet Sauvignon grapes are the grape which adds the punch to their world-beating blended wines.

Wine is actually produced in all fifty states across the country, with California leading the way by an enormous margin. Indeed, as much as eighty-nine percent of all wines to come out of the United States are produced in California, where the fertile soils and sloping mountain sides, coupled with the long, hot summers provide ideal conditions for producing high quality, European style red, white and rosé wines. With over a million acres of the country under vine, the United States sits comfortably as the fourth largest wine producer in the world, where imported grape varietals from all over the Old World are processed using a successful blend of traditional and contemporary techniques.

Appellation: Napa Valley

In the United States of America, one wine region seems to stand head and shoulders above all others. The Napa Valley of California has long been considered one of the world's premier wine regions, and the wineries which operate in this idyllic landscape now have generations of expertise when it comes to coaxing the very finest flavors and aromas from the imported varietals which thrive there. Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, Merlot and Zinfandel have become the flagship grape varietals of the Napa Valley, however, recent years have seen much expansion and experimentation undertaken by the large and small wineries which call the valley their home.
