The 2014 Mazoyères Chambertin Grand Cru has a crisp blackberry and bilberry-scented nose, more reticent than the Charmes-Chambertin at the moment and yet it is undeniably extremely focused. There is a subtle marine influence here that adds a little intrigue, some "je ne sais quoi." The palate is medium-bodied with supple ripe black fruit struck through with a keen thread of acidity. There is a little more body and weight on the finish compared to the Charmes-Chambertin, a residue of cold stone and a little pepper on the aftertaste. You come away thinking...that is a very serious wine. Cellar it for 4-5 years and you should have an outstanding counterpart to the domaine's 2014 Charmes-Chamberetin. ... More details

A ripe yet distinctly cool and ultra-fresh nose combines notes of various red berry fruit scents, earth, herbal tea and a soupçon of animale. There is excellent cut and punch to the notably muscular and intense middle weight plus flavors that are well-balanced, impressively long, complex and harmonious. Note well though that this is very firmly structured and will need plenty of time to fully mature. (Burghound)

Rated 93 by Wine Spectator
Sweet berry and spice flavors are a result of fruit and oak in this broad, expressive red. Plump and juicy enough, presenting a solid base of tannins. A few hours of aeration reveals earth and tobacco accents that shade the cherry fruit. Best from 2020 through 2035. 16 cases imported.

green grapes

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Pinot Noir grapes have been cultivated in and around the Burgundy region of France for centuries, where they have long been favored by vintners for their wide range of flavors, their thin skins and for producing wines which have light, smooth tannins, and a beautiful garnet red color Whilst they remain one of the flagship varietals of this special region, their wide popularity and recent status as a fashionable 'romantic' varietal has led to them being planted in almost every wine producing country in the world. However, the Pinot Noir demands a huge amount of care and attention from the wineries that wish to grow it, as this varietal is particularly susceptible to various forms of mildew and rot. Despite this, the grape is otherwise a favorite with wineries for the fact that it requires little extra effort once it begins fermentation. Pinot Noir is also widely known for producing some of the world's most famous sparkling wines, being one of two key grapes for the production of Champagne, and several other sparkling varieties.

Region: Burgundy

The region of Burgundy has become synonymous with high quality red wines, but in actual fact the region consistently produces a wide variety of fine wines of many different styles, rigorously protected by French wine laws designed to keep reputations and quality at a very high level. The region benefits greatly from a warm and sunny summer climate, which, coupled with the excellent quality soils which typify the region, and centuries of experience and expertise, has led to the region being known all over the world for the excellence of its produce. The majority of grapevines grown here are of the Pinot Noir varietal, which has helped Burgundy become known as the definitive region for elegant and smooth red wines, but Chardonnay grapes and many others are also grown in abundance and used to make both still and sparkling wines.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
