Readers will have to be patient with the 2018, as it is an imposing, vertical Cabernet that needs years to be at its best. Offering a fuller, juicier feel, with a darker profile, this is still a youthful brick house. Shows a backdrop of sweet bay leaf and savory notes, while an iron girder drives through the finish. This hasn’t budged at all since its release. -- Non-blind Mayacamas vertical (September 2023). Best from 2025 through 2045. 2,650 cases made.

#46 in Top 100 Cellar Selections 2023. This is an earthy, classically structured wine of great pedigree and style. It goes against the grain of bigger and riper wines. Tangy red fruit, sage and pencil shavings make for an expressive, lengthy and complex experience of elegance and grace. This wine will do well in the cellar. Enjoy best from 2028–2038. The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is floral and perfumed, with delicate hints of mint and sage entwined around redcurrants and cherries. It's medium-bodied but concentrated, with a ripe, velvety texture and a firm, astringent finish. Give it a few years to mellow before pulling a cork.

The wine opens with lilac, dried sage, and graphite. Wild mountain blueberry, maraschino cherry, and blackberry round out the fruit profile. A very elegant wine with wonderful detail and nuance.

Varietal: Cabernet Sauvignon

There is little doubt about the fact that the most familiar red wine grape varietal in the world is the Cabernet Sauvignon grape, seen listed on bottles from more or less every single wine producing country across the globe. Part of the reason for this is the fact that Cabernet Sauvignon is a particularly hardy grape, resistant to both frost and rot, and can grow well in a number of climatic conditions so long as it receives enough sunlight and water.
