91-93 The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru (from Grand Maupertuis) is bright, piercing and crystalline. This is a very pretty wine, but it needs to be appreciated on its own terms. I don't see a ton of Clos Vougeot character; rather, the vintage style speaks most clearly. Readers will find a tonic, energetic Burgundy. ... More details

90-92 The 2021 Clos Vougeot Grand Cru reveals notes of dark berries, spices, orange zest and toasty oak, followed by a medium to full-bodied, concentrated palate that's rather taut and firm. It possesses good depth, but it will require some patience.

Rated 92 by Burghound
A moderately deeply pitched nose combines notes of black cherry and earth with those of violet and plum. There is fine mid-palate volume to the fleshy and palate coating flavors that possess focused power on the lingering finish that is neither especially austere nor robust in 2021. With that said, this will still be more than capable of repaying 12 to 15 years of keeping.
Winery
Hue: Deep brilliant red. Nose: Dark cherry – fruit stones – fresh and powerful. Palate: Very fresh – long mineral undertones - delicate tannins.

Varietal: Pinot Noir

Regularly described as being the grape varietal responsible for producing the world's most romantic wines, Pinot Noir has long been associated with elegance and a broad range of flavors The name means 'black pine' in French, and this is due to the fact that the fruit of this particular varietal is especially dark in color, and hangs in a conical shape, like that of a pine cone. Despite being grown today in almost every wine producing country, Pinot Noir is a notoriously difficult grape variety to cultivate. This is because it is especially susceptible to various forms of mold and mildew, and thrives best in steady, cooler climates. However, the quality of the fruit has ensured that wineries and vintners have persevered with the varietal, and new technologies and methods have overcome many of the problems it presents. Alongside this, the wide popularity and enthusiasm for this grape has ensured it will remain a firm favorite amongst wine drinkers for many years to come.

Region: Burgundy

The beautiful region of Burgundy in France is famously home to some of the most exquisite red wines to be found anywhere on earth, and is most commonly associated with the silky, elegant and flavorful Pinot Noir varietal wines which are commonly produced there. However, the superb and mineral rich soils fed by the Rhone river, and the long hot summers and mild autumns of the region produce a wide variety of fine grapes, and as such, Burgundy produces plenty of different wines which are equally as good as the produce the region is famed for. The region of Burgundy itself has a wine-making history which stretches back at least two thousand years, and as such, it comes as no surprise that the wineries which fill the dozens of controlled appellations of the region rely heavily on traditional methods and techniques when it comes to producing their famous wines.

Country: France

It is widely understood and accepted that the finest wines in the world come out of France. Whether you are drinking a vintage bottle from one of the famed Grand Cru wineries of Bordeaux - such as Chateau Margaux or Chateau Lafite-Rothschild - or a more simple and affordable bottle from one of the lesser known appellations in Burgundy, the likelihood is that the wine is packed full of intense and interesting flavors, and has a fine, balanced structure typical of almost all French produce. This reputation for excellence is taken extremely serious by the French, with dozens of regularly updated laws and regulations ensuring the quality and accurate labeling of wines. Such dedication and passion for fine wine, representative of the region in which it is produced, means customers can be assured that when they buy a bottle from France, they are buying something almost certain to please and delight.
