Aromas of pitted cherries, grilled herbs, overturned earth and whole nutmeg. Medium- to full-bodied with structured, sturdy tannins. Fresh acidity lifts up the savory fruit and sweet spice. Very good intensity and depth here. A bit of chew at the finish. Best after 2023. Screw cap. ... More details

Density of flavour and plushness of fruit, including blackberry, alongside spiced fruit cake and a nice, stalky tension. There's a degree of opulence, with the fruit weight and ripeness understandable given the warmer year. Fresh acid drive and with fine, silty tannins, this is a lively and energised iteration of the variety, yet with a plush fruit complexity and a mineral weave throughout. Oak is used judiciously, and there is a lovely warmth and tonal spice. An inviting and comforting Margaret River Shiraz.

The 2020 vintage was a very good vintage in Margaret River for the variety, and at that point, perhaps the best yet—the low yields and warm/dry conditions played into the hands of the variety. The 2020 Art Series Shiraz typifies this, in that the tannins are resolved, and in the context of Margaret River, really quite firm. The Shiraz clones on the estate vineyard in Wallcliffe are 470, Waldron and Peppy Park cuttings (planting 2019). Sealed under screw cap. The fruit for this wine was wholly sourced from the estate Peppy Park vineyard, 17 kilometers south of the main estate vineyard in the Boodjidup/Wallcliffe area. The wine was matured for 18 months in 600-liter demi-muids (a Bordelais and Rhône coopers). "Our priority is opening up the canopies to obtain proper solarization of bunches," said Lovett.
Winery
An abundance of bursting blackcurrants, boysenberries and mulberries glide between sweet and toasted spices.

Varietal: Syrah

Known as Syrah in most countries around the world, and Shiraz in Australia and certain other regions of the New World, this grape varietal has proven over the centuries to be one of the most powerful and flavorful red wine grapes there is. It is now one of the planet's most widely grown grapes, and is a favorite with wineries as a result of its robustness and versatility. It isn't easy to identify many characteristics of this particular varietal, due to the fact that it is highly versatile and shows significant differences in flavor and character depending on the terroir it is grown in, and the climatic conditions of the region. However, Syrah is most widely associated with full bodied, strong and loud red wines, packed full of fruity and spicy flavors, held in a beautifully deep red liquid.

Region: Margaret River

In south west Australia, the most important wine region by far is surely that of Margaret River, a humid and warm region which produces up to twenty percent of Australia's total wines. Margaret River has been an important wine producing region for some time now, and currently there are around fifty thousand hectares under vine, with around one hundred and fifty wineries using the land there for growing grapes of remarkable quality and flavor. The region is renowned for its versatility, and both red and white grapes thrive well in Margaret River. The Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz grapes which Australia has become famous for flourish particularly well in the fine climate of Margaret River, alongside excellent white varietals such as Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay and Sémillon.

Country: Australia

With over sixteen thousand hectares of Australian land now under vine, Australia has become something of a world leader in regards to wine production. One of Australia's key attributes to their success has been their willingness to leave traditional vineyard practices to one side, and develop techniques which are perfectly suited to a New World country. Modern Australian wineries take into consideration the climate and the unique soil types which cover much of their country, and have had fantastic results from cross-breeding programs and blending practices which make the most of the grape varietals which thrive most successfully there, notably the Shiraz and Chardonnay grapes. In recent years, Australia has been lauded as the 'most influential' wine producing country in the world, and the rest of the New World is looking down under for inspiration, and the ability to produce comparable fine wines on their own terrain.
